Breathing Life into the Sunset

Some days in Southern California are a bit dreary, but there’s plenty of color hiding in the sunset.. you just gotta breath life into it. Again, I was just playing with this one and didn’t keep track of which editing tools I was using. But I think you’ll enjoy it nonetheless.

Playing with the Ocean in Paint Shop Pro X3

When I opened the original photo and started playing with the ocean in my PSP (Paint Shop Pro) program, I didn’t pay much attention to which tools I was using. I just wanted to relax and have fun with it. So please forgive me for not explaining what I did with these. I’m working on some tutorials that I’ll share on the Pix-O-Sphere blog in the upcoming weeks so I hope you’ll join me over there. So today’s post is more of a ‘show off’ than a ‘show and tell’.

I’ve been asked if I use Adobe Photoshop, Elements, or Lightroom (which I don’t at this time). I’ve used Paint Shop Pro for about ten years, as it was more affordable for me when I first got started with making graphics as a siggy maker at the Signature Showcase over at iVillage. Since I worked so hard at learning this program, I just haven’t taken the time to learn any of Adobe’s products. However, I do want to try. For now I’ll continue to use Jasc’s Paint Shop Pro.

I know it’s popular to purchase actions and veils for Photoshop, but honestly…I enjoy using the tools manually. For me, it’s the difference between stroking by brush across the canvas versus doing a paint by number. No offense to those who create actions and veils, because they do produce amazing art for many to enjoy. I just really enjoy playing with the software and experimenting with different light levels.

Just an additional note, the original photo was taken with my iPhone. My camera needs to get to the repair shop. Not too bad for a camera phone huh?

Do you play with any photo editing software? If so, which one?

Photo Editing with Hydrangeas

I took this image over a year ago, but decided to have some photo editing fun. I used Jasc Paint Shop Pro X3 and the free trial of Dynamic-Photo HDR 5.

These are in Jasc Paint Shop Pro X3:

ONE

In this photo, I manually adjusted the curves and levels.

In this image I used the tone mapping and set it to level 8.

THREE

In this one, I added a transparent layer with texture then erased the area over the flower with a soft edge eraser with a light opacity. Then added the brush and text.
