Five Minute Friday

I’m coming in a bit late, since we worked late the night of the #FMFParty. I had a long weekend that began on Thursday and I admit to feeling sluggish about my blogging time. So this is a kick in the rear for me. If you’d like to know more about this 5 minute writing prompt, go here.

Lisa-Jo’s prompt for the week is “Wide”.

While I’m not one to write about things in which to fear (because I’d rather uplift us to walk by faith), there certainly are things in this Kingdom life that we need to be cautious of.

Wide is the way of destruction.

While people might describe this differently and apply it towards a variety of ‘worldly’ things, I want to direct your attention to the most destructive thing that seeks to hinder my faith the most, worry. When I worry, I’m not walking by faith. To take the steps of faith is the narrow way. It’s the wide path that takes us from faith; the wide path of worry.

God takes care of the birds of the air and provides them with food and shelter. Worry is what causes us to fall from faith…not fall from our eternity in Christ, just ffrom our everyday life of faith.

All things work together for good to those who love God.

You see, destruction can come in many forms and yet not remove us from faith. A car can rear end ours, a storm can flood our homes, and a burglar can rob us at knife point; yet none of these things were a path we CHOSE.

But worry… we choose worry. It’s a wide path that many travel and it leads to destruction…it destroys our peace and joy.

Faith…the narrow way..this is where we rest in peace and enjoy the abundance of life..even in the midst of uncertain times.

Five minutes to think.. ‘wide’. It’s by faith that our narrow path becomes wide, and full of precious promises being fulfilled.

5 Minutes to Focus

Five Minute Friday

Today’s 5 Minute Friday theme is: Focus

One day while I took my children hiking, we found a flowering shrub that turned into a devotional study by way of photography. I showed Moni how to adjust the settings on her camera to get two different types of focus. We zoomed in to the flower itself, then panned out to focus on the surrounding brush. I explained how our perspectives change depending on how we focus. No matter what perspective we took, it didn’t change the big picture of the entire brush and landscape of where we were hiking. Everything is created by God.  Sometimes the greatest way for us to change a situation is to simply adjust our focus. By adjusting our focus, we are the ones who change.

5 Minutes to Graceful

Five Minute Friday

Another week has come and gone. It’s been crazy-fun busy and here we are at Friday again and yep, you guessed it, I’m participating in the 5 Minute Friday community again. The articles each lady writes every Friday have been quite encouraging to me. For my regular readers, please take a moment at the end to look below this post for the updates I need to be sure you know about before you jet off.

 Topic: Graceful

Fully grace.

This was something hard for me when I lived by the Law. The black and white of the right vs. wrong life hindered me from understanding what grace really meant. I knew Christ gave me grace in regards to that initial relationship with God beginning, yet somehow I had missed that grace is for every day. It had to come to me letting go of the Law so I could grab a hold of His hand and walk by grace every day.

Graceful is the word I use to describe the female gymnastics of the Olympic games, but grace-full..well that’s just not the same for me. Maybe we get confused about ‘graceful’ when we think living the perfect-female-Christian-proverbs 31-wife-mother-life with charm, beauty, and temperance meant graceful. Then we trip, fall, scuff our knees, stutter in prayer, and face palm as Christian women. We all scuff our knees as we think we are doing the ‘Christian life’ just right. He shows us time and time again that this is not the life he meant for us. Trying so hard to keep the Law. He kept it on our behalf.

Not just partial grace, or ‘only step 1 grace’…fully grace.
