Who has time to write on more than one blog, homeschool the kiddos, cook dinner, and keep up with ministry…while not burning out? There’s no time in life for a burn out! But may I encourage you a bit about writing on other blogs?
When you guest post or become a regular contributor on other blogs, you are investing who you are into the lives of other people and in turn your blog will be introduced to new potential friends and readers. The trick is to remain balanced in doing so and not get get worn out.
Schedule your time for guest blogging. I set aside 1 week every other month to do guest blogging and I receive guests on my blog at the same time. I will write up 3 posts that will be published elsewhere and contact 3 bloggers to participate with me in the swap. Some people will only submit their guest posts elsewhere without accepting guests of their own, and that is good too..however, I like for my blog to have posts while I’m “away” on another blog so my readers will still have something to read from my blog and be introduced to others bloggers too.
Become a Regular Contributor: There are many group blogs where you can join their team as a regular contributor, but I recommend you only become a regular on 1 or 2 blogs at a time. Managing your own blog and social media is tricky enough as it is (with everything else a mom blogger does) and you don’t want to be spinning too many plates at once. I currently contribute regularly to The Homeschool Post and Growing in Grace.
Spread the Link Love: When you’re guest blogging, be sure to link some of the text to articles on the blog you are contributing to. For example, when I guest blogged for Jamerrill, I made sure to link in some of her own articles into my article. You can also link in your articles that appear on other blogs you have been a guest at. The more deep links you have on your blog and that you contribute on other blogs, the better!
Contribute at Your Leisure: Some sites will allow you to contribute at your leisure with a minimum contribution of 1 post a month to remain active. Each site is different so find the one that best suits your needs. Make sure you are submitting your article to blogs that have an audience that you think will like to follow you back to your blog.
Be Confident: Don’t worry about whether or not your blog is “a big blog” before you start contributing. If you feel confident about your writing and have a passion for your topics, then the readers will sense that. Don’t feel bad if someone doesn’t accept you as a writer yet. There are plenty of blogs out there that will! Rejection can be one of the most difficult things we face as bloggers, but be diligent and keep putting yourself out there.
Be Teachable: Keep reading about blogging, writing, and networking! The Internet is fast moving and growing in leaps and bounds. Yes, there are millions of writers out there, but you have what it takes, so strut your stuff! Show your knowledge and your heart in your writing and get busy learning more. Subscribe to blogs that teach you how to become a better blogger, writer, and social media manager for your own blog.
